A PEESI PEH MI ATI DE

Site specific installation at triennial Moengo Festival of Visual Arts, Surinam

During the triennial, Moengo Festival of Visual Arts, Tembe Fu Libi, the project Mi Egi sweti Moengo will receive a visual follow-up. Valerie has selected six stories of which the accompanying photos are printed on a square meter and placed on various tables. These tables, in turn, will provide a base for various bowls and dishes filled with natural materials and objects traditionally used to honor the ground. An important part of the work is the Praapi (traditional wash bowl), made from clay from the Cottica river. These praapies are made and painted in collaboration with Ricardo Dewani, according to the traditions of his ancestors.

The accompanying stories hang on the wall, behind the installation, in both Dutch and Aukan and Surinamese. The whole forms an installation that both narrates and refers to the various aspects of Maroon culture in Suriname.

In collaboration with Kibii foundation, Ricardo Dewani, Tresna Pinas and Foedisha Pinas.
